Analysis

George Bellows studied with the Ashcan School of artists who are featured in our Uptown Downtown gallery. This urban realist school of art influenced his famous boxing paintings. This scene, done in Woodstock, New York where he often summered to escape the heat of New York, shows a very personal scene near a home he once rented.
