The Hunter Museum offers a variety of classes and workshops for adults. Explore a new hobby, brush up on old skills, and socialize with new and like minded people.

Friday, October 9 from 5-7, with sessions on Saturday and Sunday from 9-12 p.m. or 1-4 p.m.

Join the Hunter Museum of American Art and Ignis Glass for this innovative workshop. Be inspired by the patterns, energy and innovation in the art of New York Cool: Painting and Sculpture from the NYU Art Collection exhibition to create your own modern image on glass plate with a limited edition of prints on paper. Discover connections in glass and printmaking with printmaker Juanita Tumelaire and glass artist Bruce Benfield.
Participants will sign up for one session on Saturday and Sunday during Friday's meet and greet.

Part I: The Foundation
Thursdays, 6 - 8 p.m., September 10 - October 15
$120 member; $150 non-member
In this 6 week course you will work primarily in conte, charcoal and pastels focusing on proportion, facial features and basic drawing techniques and materials. This course is for beginner to intermediate artists interested in portraiture. Participants will work from a live model. Register
Part II: Light and shadow
Thursdays, 6 - 8 p.m., October 22 - December 10 (no class on November 12 or 26)
$120 member; $150 non-member
In part I you learned the basics - you have captured a person's likeness. In part II participants will learn how to build in shadow, value and depth as they develop a keen eye for the details and uniqueness of an individual so they can truly capture the likeness of a person. Register
Part III: Putting it all Together with Color
Thursdays, 6 - 8 p.m., January 21 - February 25

In part III we put everything together. You will learn how to enliven your portraits with color. Discover a rich palette in pastels as you learn the diverse hues that make up the human complexion. Register

This 8 week course is intended for intermediate and advanced painters who are looking to brush up on basic skills, refine their eye and improve their personal visions through composition and process. A supply list will be provided prior to the start of this class.

Saturday evening, 2-5 p.m., November 7 and March 13
$16 members, $20 non-members
Join other local artists in an open discussion about your most recent work. Led by Morris Mitchell, local artist and retired professor from the Ringling College of Art and Design, Open Critique is a space for discussion, feedback, guidance and ultimately individual growth.

Master the art of composition through combining traditional and nontraditional art materials in assemblage. Guided by instructor Moe Mitchell, you will find inspiration in your own experiences, in the diversity of materials and fellow students as you create in this conceptual art form and rediscover yourself. Basic supply list will be provided.

The human figure is one of the most familiar subjects in art and also the most difficult to master. Capture the beauty of the figure in this 6 week course. Working from live models under the guidance of instructor Moe Mitchell improve your ability to capture what you see with an understanding of what lies beneath.

Saturdays, April 24 - May 29, 10-12 p.m.

In this introductory watercolor class participants will learn the basics of watercolor from preparing the paper to finishing a work for framing. Participants will enjoy the wonderful colors and smells of spring as they paint in the open air on the Hunter Museum's Terrace overlooking the Tennessee River.
